OVERVIEW
The Sweet Mag is a handcrafted bakery built around the idea that cakes should be as beautiful as they are delicious. The project involved creating a complete visual identity inspired by editorial design, combining elegant typography, playful colour, and handcrafted details into a brand that feels both contemporary and nostalgic.
Alongside the identity, the project included packaging, menus, website concepts, and supporting brand applications, creating a cohesive experience across every customer touchpoint.

CHALLENGE
Many artisan bakeries share a similar visual language built around rustic textures and traditional aesthetics. The challenge was to create a brand that celebrated craftsmanship while introducing a more contemporary editorial character capable of standing out both in-store and online.
The strategy focused on balancing elegance with warmth, creating a visual identity that feels playful, memorable, and approachable without losing its handcrafted authenticity.

VISUAL IDENTITY
The identity is centered around a custom illustrated portrait of Alessandra, the founder of The Sweet Mag. As the face behind every cake, she represents the warmth, creativity, and attention to detail that define the brand. By making the founder part of the identity itself, the logo transforms from a simple mark into a recognizable symbol of the bakery's personality and craftsmanship.
Complementing the illustration is an editorial-inspired typographic system and a playful colour palette influenced by seasonal ingredients, flowers, and handcrafted desserts. Together, these elements create a visual language that feels elegant, welcoming, and full of character.

BRAND EXPERIENCE
The identity extends across packaging, menus, storefront graphics, and a concept website, creating a consistent experience from the first online interaction to the final slice of cake. Every application was designed to reinforce the brand's handcrafted nature while maintaining a clean and contemporary aesthetic.
Rather than treating each touchpoint individually, the project approaches them as parts of one cohesive visual system, allowing the brand to remain recognizable across both digital and physical environments.

VISUAL SYSTEM
The visual language combines the expressive character of the Margaret typeface with the clean functionality of Montserrat, balancing personality with readability. A palette of soft creams, botanical greens, lavender, peach, blueberry, and strawberry tones reflects the variety and craftsmanship of handmade pastries while giving the brand a distinctive editorial feel.
Together, these elements create a flexible identity capable of adapting across packaging, menus, printed materials, and digital communication.

IMPACT
The Sweet Mag establishes a brand that feels memorable, contemporary, and unmistakably handcrafted. By combining illustration, editorial design principles, and a cohesive visual system, the project creates an identity that transforms a local bakery into a lifestyle brand capable of extending across products, cafés, and future locations.
